Oxford Preview – 49 Controls on Men’s Open!
With advance entries closed for Oxford, the first of this year’s UK city races we are featuring, 331 people are on the start list. The biggest class looks to be Men’s Open with 60 pre-entries. This course has an impressive 49 controls on it, possibly a record for a race using SI in the UK.
With Oxford’s patchwork of small, intricate colleges, scientific research facilities and medieval streets, there is potential for plenty of short, tricky multilevel legs.
The final details suggest that competitors will be navigating around Lady Margaret Hall, St Anne’s College, St Hugh’s College and the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, all in north Oxford, as well as the science campus (map extract below) and University Parks, where the start and finish will be held. Here’s the map from the 2012 race, showing the 47 controls on the Men’s Open course then.
The weather is looking good and it’s shaping up to be an excellent race!
